The Best View In The World

The Best View In The World
Above is what is probably the best view in the world (according to Liverpudlians) it is the Pierhead. From Left to Right: Atlantic Tower Hotel, St Nicholas's Church, Royal Liver Building , Cunard Building and The Port of Liverpool Building. In front of them is the Pierhead Landing Stage where you can board a ferry and go across the Mersey to Birkenhead

William Roscoe

William Roscoe
William Roscoe was born in Liverpool in 1753 and died in Liverpool in 1831. He was a poet, philanthropist, botanist, art collector, historian, MP, slave trade abolitionist, entrepreneur and biographer. The list goes on and on. He had many friends and he was a friend of many. He has been hailed as one of Liverpool's greatest son's, I think he was the greatest. I first became interested with Roscoe when I attended junior school; we were studying The Slave Trade. The class I was in was taken to the Liverpool Museum in William Brown Street. There, we were shown the atrocities that happened both ashore and on those slave ships to the black African people. We also learned about how William Roscoe fought for the abolition of the Slave Trade along with William Wilberforce and many other human rights activists. When I returned home I told my Grandfather about it and he told me that I was related to William Roscoe. Ever since he told me that, I have been curious to find anything about my famous ancestor. I regard him as a fascinating man in any case, regardless of the family connection. If there is anyone who would like to contact me regarding William Roscoe then please do so.
